-Fox have officially announced that Cheryl Cole has joined the judging panel for the US version of The X Factor. Her addition to the show had been rumoured for months and Cole, who is relatively unknown in the States, will be joining L.A. Reid, Simon Cowell and one more as yet unannounced judge (rumoured to be Paula Abdul).
- The fourth series of Merlin will be a whole 13 episodes long, rather than the previously announced 10, while Nathaniel Parker (Inspector Lynley Mysteries) will join the cast as Arthur’s uncle.
- ITV have commissioned a script based around the sinking of the Titanic by Julian Fellowes, writer of the phenomenon that is Downton Abbey. It will be broadcast next April around the 100th anniversary of the doomed voyage.
- Three new episodes of sitcom Absolutely Fabulous will be filmed later this year, with Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley reprising their roles as Eddy and Patsy.
-The FX pilot from Glee creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, American Horror Story, has added Dylan McDermott to its cast. The pilot will centre around McDermott’s character, who is a therapist.
- Fox have opted to renew Bones for a seventh season.
- Following the death of its star Elisabeth Sladen, no further episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures will be made, but the three stories that have already been filmed will be shown as a tribute to the actress who gave life to one of Doctor Who’s most enduring and well-loved characters. Sladen's final story with Tom Baker, 'Hand of Fear', will be shown this Monday and Tuesday from 7.40pm on BBC4.

- Vera, the rather good new crime drama series starring Brenda Blethyn, continues this Sunday at 8pm on ITV1.

- New conspiracy thriller The Shadow Line began last Thursday on BBC2, and it has the mother of all casts, including Christopher Eccleston, Oscar-nominated Stephen Rea, Rafe Spall and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Catch the second episode this week at 9pm.
- New series The Chicago Code, from The Shield creator Shawn Ryan and starring Jennifer Beals, Delroy Lindo and Jason Clarke, begins at 9pm on Sky1, this Thursday. The show is a police drama that follows the first female superintendent in Chicago as she battles corruption.
- For the first time in its history, Have I Got News For You will have two hosts this week. Masterchef judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode will take the chair – see how they fare on Friday at 9pm on BBC1.
- The second season of Big Love begins this Friday at 9pm on Sky Atlantic.
