- This week has seen the start of the network upfronts, and that means that there’s been more than a couple of cancellations, renewals and pick-ups. Here’s a quick rundown of what’s been axed by the US broadcast networks: Brothers & Sisters, V, Better with You, No Ordinary Family, The Event, Lie to Me, The Chicago Code and Human Target.
- Amongst all of those cancellations, though, there have been some encouraging decisions on the renewal front. NBC have opted to give Chuck a fifth (and final) 13-episode season, and HBO have renewed Treme for a third season. Other renewals include House and Parenthood.
- And with the cancellations, space has been cleared for new pilots. Many new shows have been picked up, and over the next few months, we’ll find out if they’re making their way over to the UK. Particularly interesting pick-ups include Alcatraz (mysterious drama centered around the infamous prison), Person of Interest (starring Lost’s Michael Emerson), Finder (a spin-off of Bones), an adaptation of Prime Suspect, Grimm (set in a world where fairy tales are real), The Playboy Club (set in 60s Chicago), Awake (featuring Jason Isaacs as a cop living two versions of the same life), Once Upon A Time (another “fairy tales are real”-type show) and a reboot of Charlie’s Angels.

A fourth series has already been confirmed to air later this year, but a further series would complete the five-year arc that has been discussed since the show began.
- Ashton Kutcher is officially replacing Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men. Hugh Grant was considered as a possible replacement, but Kutcher will now be taking the leading role. The sitcom will resume production in the summer.
