Jasmine Sahu is well suited with this new American drama exclusive to Dave.
Lois Cameron explains why this series is much more than your average cosy period drama.
The last episode of this series sees Sherlock and Moriarty attempt to solve the final problem with devastating consequences.
With major cast changes afoot, Jacob Martin ponders whether Being Human can live up to its own scarily high standard.
Are you lucky enough to have Reading Week this week? Turn it into Watching Week with this refined selection…
1) Glamorous new American drama, Pan Am makes its hotly anticipated debut on Wednesday at 9pm, and is the latest in a very long line to be dubbed “the next Mad Men”. It’s an interesting marketing technique, seeing as only five people have ever watched Mad Men in this country.
2) Fans of the Beatles would be wise not to miss George Harrison: Living in a Material World (Saturday and Sunday, BBC2), which is directed by Martin Scorcese no less and is full of love for the Quiet Beatle.
3) The X Factor – it just doesn’t get enough publicity does it?
4) I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! is back for its gazillionth series on Sunday at 9pm and features: That Guy From Corrie; That Woman From Emmerdale; and, best of all, That Bloke From McFly! Oh ITV, you are spoiling us.
5) And can it really be that time of year again? Children In Need consumes the BBC’s schedules on Friday evening, so scrape together some pennies and donate! Failing that, construct a giant Pudsey Bear out of beer bottle caps and unread lecture notes.
Prepare to be bombarded with reviews of Rev, Pan Am, and Frozen Planet this week, which will feature vicars, air stewardesses and penguins (not necessarily in that order). There’s something for everyone!
- In surely the best news of the week, Frankie Cocozza has been booted off The X Factor for breaking a “golden rule” (presumably he wouldn’t let the hair stylist near him?) In almost as good news, it means that one of the acts who were booted off by the judges in the first live show gets to come back. But can we really choose between the brilliant Amelia and the downright hilarious 2 Shoes?
- As if it wasn’t exciting enough that the absolutely fabulous Absolutely Fabulous is returning for 3 specials (with the first to air at Christmas!!), Jennifer Saunders has also suggested that a movie may be in the works. Oh, hang on, we’ve just remembered Mr Bean’s Holiday…
- Acclaimed US drama Weeds has been renewed for an eighth season over in the US. The show features storylines about various illegal activities, and has absolutely nothing to do with Weed from Bill and Ben.
- A reworking of classic gameshow Blockbusters is said to be in the works. If you can’t wait for this to happen, and regardless of the time you’re reading this, turn over to Challenge, as they’re bound to be showing a repeat of an old one.
- Russell Tovey has announced on Twitter that he is leaving Being Human, which is sad news indeed. But Annie (Lenora Critchlow) and Nina (Sinead Keenan) seem to have a pretty good double-act going on, so we’re not too worried.
- And finally, 1.4 million tuned in to watch The Only Way is Essex series finale on Thursday. Shame on you.
