It's another quiet week, with the channels clearing their schedules for a raft of Christmas specials, but here are a few of the treats to keep us going till then.
1) We’re sure you haven’t heard, so we thought we better push the fact that it’s The X Factor Final (Sat 8pm/Sun 7.30pm ITV1) this weekend! And it’s on for 4 hours so there’s plenty to keep us busy…
2) The Royal Variety Performance (Wed 7.30pm ITV1) – No doubt it will be the usual mixed affair, but Peter Kay’s presenting so that’s good. Unless you don’t like Peter Kay…
3) It’s the last in the series of Him and Her (Tue 10.30pm BBC3) this week, and it’s bound to be the usual eye-wateringly excruciating delight that this series has consistently been.
4) Death in Paradise – OK, so we know it’s not exactly rewritten the laws of television, but Tuesday nights will feel a lot emptier after it finishes on Tuesday (9pm BBC1). You just can’t beat a Miss Marple reveal, can you?
5) Channel 4 goes gritty again with This is England ’88 (Tue-Thu 9pm). Just what you’ll need to get yourself in the Christmas mood.
Check back later tonight for The Yorker’s very own X Factor liveblog! And throughout the week, keep your eye out a review of This is England, and the final Young Apprentice blog.
- It has been confirmed that Simon Cowell will return to Britain’s Got Talent as a full-time judge. While he does always look a bit bored on the show, it can’t be denied that this year’s series was missing that sparkle that his teeth alone can provide.
- A new Doctor Who game called ‘The Eternity Clock’ has been announced for PlayStation and PC, with fans being given the opportunity to play as The Doctor and River Song. Does anyone else think that this could be their honeymoon?
- Speaking of Doctor Who, the sixth series was iTunes’ most downloaded show in the US. However, Top Gear was also further down the list…
- The remaining judges have been confirmed for The Voice: Tom Jones and The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue. Shame Will Young missed out. Not.
- Finally, Emmerdale’s Cain Dingle whodunit was seen by well over 8 million viewers last week, one of the soap’s highest audiences of the year. We’ve noticed that big Emmerdale storylines correlate with bad weather, with 2009’s ‘Who shot Mark Wilde?’ plot coinciding with 16 inches of snow, and this latest plot with the worst storms for a century. Who needs the Met Office?
