Dan worked for the Cape Argus in his gap year, covering shark attacks and murders. He joined York Vision at university and was news editor during the year it won NUS Small Budget Publication of the Year. He was editor of Vision for two issues during the year it won Guardian Newspaper of the Year. He then quit the newspaper to co-found The Yorker and became its first Editor. He has also worked for the Cheddar Valley Gazette and Sky News.
