A group of York students has won the opportunity to have their very own I-phone application developed after winning The App Challenge final, held at the Ron Cooke Hub on Wednesday, January 18.
YUSU Welfare officer Bob Hughes has warned students to be vigilant after a student loans phishing scam has been revealed.
Her Majesty the Queen will be visiting York on Maundy Thursday, 5th April, as part of the 800th anniversary of York’s Charter for the traditional “Royal Maundy” ceremony.
A flood caused by a heating system “failure” forced the university IT services to shut down many essential systems on Sunday night, causing problems for many students on the eve of their exams and assignment due-dates.
York Entrepreneurs have received applications from over 100 people in search of becoming part of the winning team of the York Apprentice. The prize this year is £500.
The competition, which begins tomorrow, will run until Saturday where three teams will go through to a campus final.
Sarah Johnson, event organiser, said: "The tasks this year are sales, creativity and marketing, and event management. We can't tell you what the actual challenges will be but I can tell you there will be adjudication on performance as well as results. It's possible that teams could have points knocked off this year for the way they do things."
The Yorker can reveal that the judges have been chosen from Stonesoup and CETLE, as well as another organisation which is yet to be confirmed.
Last year challenges included selling doughnuts on campus and organising an event for a campus bar on Saturday night. Last year's winners, "Dead Black Cat" were all aged 19 and were comprised of psychology, biology and economics students. They beat off teams which included the incumbent YUSU president Rich Croker. This year York Vision have entered the fray as well, hoping to claim a business victory for the newspaper.
Ben Van Diggele, spokesperson for York Entrepeneurs said: "This is the second year of the competition and it's only getting bigger and more competitive. It's hard to say who will win, but it's never the hot favourite."
