Anna Mckay shares a recipe perfect for celebrating Chinese New Year
Laura Reynolds reviews the latest arrival to the York cafe scene
Anna Mckay tempts us to break the new year healthy eating streak.
Just 4 days until Christmas..get in the mood with some festive nosh!
I am not particularly religious, so perhaps some would consider me hypocritical for taking part in this Christian tradition, but then I am sure there are many unreligious people out there who still celebrate Christmas without a second thought as to the religious connotations.
My decision is instead driven by health and financial incentives. Anyone who knows me knows that I eat a LOT of chocolate. As a student, I find it difficult to avoid - Costcutter know this, which is why the chocolate is placed in the aisle where we all find ourselves queuing on a regular basis. The vending machine companies know this, which is why there are ALWAYS people stocking up the vending machines around campus. I have come to realise that I spend a shocking amount of money snacking on chocolate every week.
I am pleased to say that the first four days have gone reasonably well. Day 2, I nearly found myself ordering my usual hot chocolate in Courtyard, before having to rethink that decision, and Day 3 I spent a lot of time hanging around campus between lectures, a time when I would usually go to the Vanbrugh vending machines for a snack. Instead I ended up in Costcutter buying some Mr. Kipling Angel Slices - no more beneficial for my health or finances than chocolate, but at least I didn’t fail in the first week!
