Just 4 days until Christmas..get in the mood with some festive nosh!
A recent late-afternoon trip past Newgate market in the centre of town brought two rather sad-looking punnets of strawberries my way for £1.50. Combine this for a bunch of bananas for a quid and I knew it was smoothie-time. They’re really easy and really nutritious. So if you’ve got some slightly manky fruit bashing about in your kitchen, bung it in a blender and break out the straws.

Ingredients:
Method:
1) Put the strawberries and blueberries in the blender and break in the banana. 2) Dollop a few spoonfuls of yoghurt over the fruit. Use the whole pot if you fancy a creamy smoothie or omit if you want an extra-fruity blast. 3) Pour over about a dessertspoon of honey. 4) Throw in a handful of ice if you’ve got it. 5) Then top up your mix with enough juice to come between half-and three quarters of the way up the fruit. 6) Blend, taste for sweetness and add more honey if it’s a bit too sour, or a squeeze of lemon juice if you think it’s too sweet. 7) Sit back and enjoy the vitamins.
Note: I always have a bag of frozen fruits of the forest in my freezer, they only cost about £1.50 from supermarkets and come in really handy. Use in place of the strawberries and blueberries here if you don’t have any fresh fruit. Your smoothie will taste just as good and extra cold!
