The best and the worst of the competitors’ band names for BoB 2009.
On Friday night two of my dreams will be coming true: I will be both Hermione Granger and a Zombie.
The Yorker gives you the rundown of what's Hot and what's Not in Freshers' Fortnight.
Big, chunky knitted hats are warm, flattering and undeniably unisex. Oversized berets and crocheted cloches are casual cool and can dress down an otherwise smart outfit. Whilst I’d advise boys to stay away from the glittery versions, everyone should embrace the slouchy beanie. A little trend whoring every now and again never did anyone any harm.
The ideal way to boost your sense of self importance. Laura is hoping she gets lots of Christmas presents. Laura is wondering what she’ll have to eat for dinner. Laura is enjoying feeling regal every time she updates her status. Laura is wishing she could talk about herself in this fashion all the time.
Incredibly, the ice cream van of Tang Hall (and presumably further afield) is still going strong, despite the fact that Christmas will be upon us in two weeks. Given that I’m gnawing on a frozen hazelnut yogurt as I type, this I think, is fantastic. The ice cream people have recognised that not everyone craves a warm mince pie every night in December; some of us enjoy a dessert to match the temperature outside. Of course, what’s really hot is the notion that whatever you want is available whenever you want it. Terrific. Veruca Salt anyone?
So make sure you do.
My ‘what’s not’ this week was going to be the new GNER website. I was on it the other day, and came away confused and frustrated, ticket-less and quite angry. I couldn’t believe that good old reliable GNER had made things so complicated. Everything was different, I didn’t know where to click or where to look, and – inconvenience of inconveniences – I had to re-register. Now today, fully prepared to pinpoint and explain my website disdain I typed www.gner.co.uk in my little internet window. I was met with a white screen, and a rush of pure horror as I read, “From 9th December 2007 National Express took over running the popular East Coast rail franchise - previously operated by GNER. You will now be redirected to the nationalexpresseastcoast.com website”. This is just AWFUL, I can’t believe it. I LOVE GNER! Yeah, yeah, they were having a few financial problems…I knew something like this would happen, but so soon? So National Express? I feel bad that I ever considered suggesting that anything to do with my beloved Great North Eastern Railway could possibly be not hot. Mostly though, I feel bad that the lovely, imposing, navy blue trains are no doubt going to be painted white and blue – not hot at all, and the website is still bad.
This seems to happen a lot around Christmas, especially with the colour red. Why is it that people – usually even sensible people – who buy something red, suddenly turn into accessory monsters, convinced that taking ‘co-ordinated’ to a whole new level is a good idea? Red shoes? Great choice – fun, flirty, fabulous! Whip out some gorgeous red lipstick, and leave it at that. Just because your shoes are red, this doesn’t mean your bag, nail varnish, necklace, scarf, earrings, belt and bracelets should all be too. In fact, it means they shouldn’t.
I know the tour has had rave reviews, and they all look better than they have in years, and Cavalli designed the costumes, but I’m just not feeling the reunion. Were they all (obviously with the exception of Posh) running out of money?
taking yrself a bit 2 srsly bb?
To the person below... come on, it's obviously tongue in cheek, get a life!
Well it was ABOVE, alright.
ye ye, im so hot rite now
thx qt
I don't know when you looked at National Express East Coast online, but its an amazing website and service. I recently went to London on the choo choo and it was fast (1 hr 50) stopped only twice (and only once on the way back up) and has free wireless internet to pass away that time onboard. It even shows a cute little map letting you know where abouts in the country you are.
Also, I believe that the 'lovely' blue trains are going to be repainted then covered in special vinyl so that they can carry adverts on the sides of them, which kinda makes sense.
