James Arden checks out the garage rockers latest album.
The Christian rock band from Brighton bring religion to the masses.
Recipe for modern R'n'B album: liberal helpings of guest rappers and an overdose of sexual euphemisms.
Amazingly so, YES has to be the answer to that. As Slow Club made their way to the stage at the York’s Junction, this reviewer’s curiosity was aroused by the random objects that were being carried along- the most curious; it has to be said, being an old legless dining room chair.
The duo went straight into the music (the chair remaining untouched, but sitting there with the promise of something strangely wonderful). Looking around the audience, there was hardly one person without a smile on their face by the end of the first song. The effect of Slow Club seemed to be to remind you of washed out summer days, lazing around in the sun with friends.
The banter between Rebecca and Charles just totally put the crowd at ease. It is hard to imagine either of them being stressed out or tired, but there they were, telling us how they had played three gigs in two days (travelling from Paris to Bristol and then to us dear Yorkers), and of how Rebecca really had not faired well on the Eurostar. After sharing her misfortune and fragile state with us, the chair finally got its debut!- with Rebecca reaching for a pair of drum sticks and battering the hell out of the poor thing! I have to apologise for this poor description, because I do love the song 'Me and You' and the chair really did keep its earlier promise, but the occurrence was surely a sight to behold and most certainly not what I had been expecting!
While Charles kept up with his acoustic guitar, Rebecca treated us to an array of different sounds, including a string of bells, the tambourine, and the drums. Alas though! The spoons were not to be, as the duo apologised that they had gotten lost somewhere on tour. Never mind! I thoroughly enjoyed the night, and was only disappointed at the depressingly small size of the crowd - where were you all?! You missed an amazing gig and I advice you to check them out and if possible get yourself to one of their up and coming dates.
