Video-tastic: Our pick of the hottest videos for the latest releases

vhs video
Sunday, 3rd February 2008
This week we've got a wide selection for you... from videos that will get you up on your feet and bopping away to ones that will send you to sleep.

I'm really loving the video for Blood Red Shoes 'You Bring Me Down' this week. It's not often you come across a really good indie rock video that isn't overly pretentious or trying to hard. In fact, what I really like about this video is that it's not perfect; when the scenes change, the synching between the sound and image sometimes isn't spot on. This has the potential to really annoy some people, but I think it really works here. The only thing I would find fault with is with the way they disappear at the end, keep it simple folks...

In a completely different music genre, Rihanna is about to release yet another slammin' (yes, I DID just say slammin'... I don't care... it's Rihanna...) single with 'Don't Stop The Music'. If you haven't heard this song you've probably been living under a rock somewhere, but now it's time to crawl out from your hiding place, put on a little black dress and hit Gallery hard, because it would be a crime NOT to dance to this song. I'm not usually a fan of the 'club scene' video, but this one is fun, colourful, and just plain HOT. Plus, is it just me, or does the wallpaper bear a striking resemblance to that currently all over York's very own Vodka Revs? I think so, and will probably be found doing my best Rihanna impression in there after a few too many of their flavored shots.

On the other hand, the new video by Wet Wet Wet for their single 'Weightless' is soo dull. Am I being harsh? Perhaps, but seriously now, in a music world ruled by the likes of Timbaland, Rihanna, and scores of indie bands who are producing rocking songs and kicking videos every week, you really have to step up your game. I will usually watch anything on music channels to get me out of doing something productive, but this video has the power to drive me to my books. Yawn.

Someone who will never be described as boring, however, is Bjork. Her new single 'Earth Intruders' certainly lives up to her quirky reputation, and the accompanying video doesn't disappoint either. It a busy tribal video that is just really good fun to watch. I've watched it 3 times already today and am not bored yet! The best part, in my opinion, is where the tribal people fun into the black background and shoot away at the rest of the darkness. It may not be a huge club hit, but listen to it before a night out to get you pumped up.
