Surf's Up in Vanbrugh!

Surf's Up
Surf's Up!

Written by Nick Scarlett

Last Friday saw the final Freshers Fortnight event (unless you count Week 5's Viking Raid), and it was also the first of many RAG fundraisers of the year.

The theme was beach based, so it was hoola skirts, shorts, garish t-shirts and beads aplenty all around Vanbrugh's bar, dining hall and JCR. To add spice to matters, the organisers gave the event a 'traffic light' theme, and the number of green (single) stickers proved how fresher friendly the event was.

Beach themed cocktails stuck with the main theme of the night, and several decorations across the venue proved the efforts that had gone in from the RAG Ents team to make the event a success.

A cheese and chart DJ set kept a moderate crowd in the dining hall entertained, as did a giant "surf simulator", which no doubt led to many a drunken accident.

Those who chose to retreat to the JCRC were "treated" to the karaoke skills of those in attendance, with YUSU's Jamie Tyler and Matt Burton both giving "interesting" vocal displays alongside other wailers.

All in all most revellers, be they freshers, RAG members or the odd second and third years who couldn't wait until the following nights TrasheD to relive what Campus has to offer, seemed to have a good night. As is always the case with RAG Events, fun as they may be, the fact all profits go to charity makes them thoroughly worthwhile events to attend. Bring on the next one...
