With the festival season fast approaching, The Yorker will be keeping you updated with the latest line-up announcements. Every couple of weeks, we’ll hit you with the latest news from a selection of the UK’s finest festivals…
Henham Park, Suffolk; 15-18 July. Tickets £155 (£65 per day)
Just launched, the fifth installment of the most diverse festival on the UK circuit looks as exciting as ever. Younger than last year's headliners (which included Nick Cave and Pet Shop Boys), the main Obelisk Arena bill is led this year by Florence + The Machine, Belle and Sebastian and Vampire Weekend. The second music stage, newly renamed The Word Arena, will be the home of a more leftfield selection, including headliners The National, The xx and Grizzly Bear. In addition, the likes of The Horrors, The Maccabees and Charlotte Gainsbourg perform lower down the bill.
For all the music on show, Latitude wouldn't be Latitude without the offer of a much wider range of culture. Initial performers at the Comedy Arena include Irish favourites Ardal O'Hanlan and Tommy Tiernan, alongside Rich Hall and the legendary Emo Philips, whereas the Theatre Arena plays host to performances by members of the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Bush Theatre and The Opera Group with the London Sinfonietta. Plenty additional announcements, including those for the literary, cinematic and poetic stages, will be made in the coming months.
Glanusk Park, Brecon Beacons; 20-22 August
Tickets £120 (£104 with NUS)
The Green Man Festival, perfectly nestling at the foot of the Brecon Beacons' Sugar Loaf Mountain, last year played host to a near-perfect line-up of artists. This year looks to continue the same, with two out of three headliners - Oklahoma wizards The Flaming Lips and stunning Californian harpist Joanna Newsom - announced so far. Carrying on the festival themes of psychedelia, folk and indie music, other bands hoping for the festival to avoid the rain for a second year running include Beirut, Billy Bragg, Field Music and The Unthanks.
Robin Hill Country Park, Isle of Wight; 9-12 September
Tickets £150 (£140 with NUS)
Taking on the title "The Year of the Fantastic" and boasting a "fantasy" fancy-dress theme, Bestival master DJ Rob da Bank has been building up this year's event for quite some time now. Early announcements include Dizzee Rascal, The Prodigy, The Flaming Lips, LCD Soundsystem and Hot Chip. Add to that the UK exclusive performance from the enigmatic Knife vocalist Fever Ray and sets from Ellie Goulding, Delphic, The Temper Trap and Mumford & Sons, and it looks to be an intimidatingly good show this year.
Already sold out are Glastonbury (Stevie Wonder, U2, Muse, …), V Festival (Kings of Leon, Kasabian, The Prodigy) and T in the Park (Eminem, Kasabian, Muse).
