With festival announcements moving on apace, The Yorker brings you the latest from Download, Isle of Wight and End of the Road Festivals, as well as a new announcement from The Green Man Festival.
Donington Park, Derby; 11-13 June
Tickets £180 (5 nights camping), £170 (3 nights camping)
Opening the festival season with a bang (or series of bangs, more likely), plenty of the heaviest acts in the mainstream are descending on Derbyshire once again this year. AC/DC, Rage Against The Machine and Aerosmith lead a bill which also features Motörhead, Megadeth and the latest rock hybrid Them Crooked Vultures.
Seaclose Park, Isle of Wight; 11-13 June
Tickets £150 (£130 without camping)
On the same weekend as Download, the Isle of Wight hosts a more pop-orientated bunch. Main headliners of the calibre of Jay-Z, The Strokes and Paul McCartney set the bar high for an entertaining festival programme, with other acts on a pretty diverse bill including Blondie, Florence + The Machine, P!nk, Orbital, Editors, The Hold Steady, La Roux and Devendra Banhart.
Larmer Tree Gardens, Dorset; 10-12 September
Tickets £130
At the other end of the festival season, the intimate festival is looking stronger than ever for its fifth year. Known for putting the music first, End of the Road will this year reward the 5000 or so punters lucky enough to get tickets with headliners Wilco and other acts including The New Pornographers, The Antlers, Iron & Wine and The Mountain Goats. For a musical, spicy cider-infused autumnal evening far away from the everyday world, EotR is the only wise option.
The Yorker can exclusively reveal that Wild Beasts will join Joanna Newsom and The Flaming Lips on The Green Man Festival line-up. In an interview to be published over Easter, Ben Little and Chris Talbot describe their particular excitement at joining Newsom on the bill. Bellowhead also self-confirmed for the Brecon Beacons’ finest festival, but that appears to remain subject to contract.
Elsewhere, Glastonbury has confirmed the return of the Left Field stage after a year's absence. This time around, it will be curated by Billy Bragg. Reading and Leeds Festivals aren’t due to release details of their line-ups until soon before March 29’s ticket sale, but rumour-mongers have claimed this year’s headlining trio to comprise the unusual combination of Blink 182, My Chemical Romance and Arcade Fire. Keep an eye out to see if those turn out to be true.
