Recipe for modern R'n'B album: liberal helpings of guest rappers and an overdose of sexual euphemisms.
Fear not, all you festival depresses. Constellations festival lights up this weekend! Not only is this an extra reason to take a mid-term break from slaving (or slacking) at the books, but the event is held in none-too-distant Leeds! Cheap tickets, quick trains and plenty of music, alcohol and winter frolics to light up those dark and chilly evenings for sure!
Constellations festival celebrates up and coming music, art and entertainment. Better yet, since it’s hosted in part by Leeds University, it is the ultimate festival for students, designed with plenty of offers, a relaxed atmosphere lost on larger festivals and music from the underground scenes, to student bands, to breaking acts and everything in between.
Acts included on the bill range from The Big Pink to Braids to Wild Beasts to Yuck. The event is organised so as to mix the big names and lesser known acts throughout the day and runs throughout the afternoon and well into the night.
The Big Pink rose to fame with their debut A Brief History of Love, which quickly found a choice hit with lifting ‘Dominoes’. No, not a song about every student’s preferred pizza takeaway, but girls falling in love like, erm, well, dominoes. Even Nicki Minaj has re-swizzled the track in all her Super Bass glory. Singles ‘Velvet’ and ‘Tonight’ are equal indie-electro-pop pleasers and the set is sure not to disappoint.
Wild Beasts latest release Smother has been a firm favourite with The Yorker this year. The indie rock band come from the Lake District and their grandeur sound is refreshing, exhilarating and has had them nominated for various prestigious music awards in the past.
The one-night-only event has proved a hit with students as a unique way to break the rigours of mid-term stress.
Last year’s diverse line-up featured sets from Broken Social Scene and The Vaccines.
