The Yorker's sports team says what they would like for Christmas this year

Speaking at the second Student Assembly of the term, Asfahani confirmed that, after weeks of negotiating, clubs who do not use the sports centre, courts and other campus facilities will not be required to pay York Sport membership.
College Sport membership was also removed at the beginning of the academic year.
However, members of clubs who do use campus facilities will have to pay £40 York Sport membership this year, alongside their club membership.
This York Sport payment covers core training sessions, use of the sports centre and other facilities, and BUCS bookings.
The announcement comes as a partial victory for Asfahani, who previously told The Yorker he wishes to reduce, if not remove, York Sport membership fees for all clubs.
“Ideally, York Sport membership simply doesn’t exist or we charge a much lower membership, such as £10, that goes to York Sport to help in funding clubs and facilities,” he said.
Asfahani added that the York Sport membership is “useless” in terms of insurance policies as YUSU already has blanket insurance for its all members and additional insurance is paid by the sports clubs to national sports organisations.
York Sport membership will stand at £40 for this coming academic year but Asfahani said arrangements for next year are still under discussion.
“We are eventually aiming for the removal of the £40, especially with the introduction of the £9,000 fees next year,” he said.
“I have no doubt that removing a £40 barrier to participation will make trying new sports far more attractive to students. I'm hoping that not only will we have more club members but that also when they are part of the club they may be more willing to invest in things like kit because they've saved £40 previously.”
Asfahani also revealed that refunds have been requested for off-campus club members who paid their £40 York Sport membership at the start of the term and that they are awaiting decisions from the university sports centre.
