But, in the words of the coach, this was "our house" and we weren’t willing to let anyone beat us! A narrow win is still a win, and the win was most definitely narrow this week. The final score was Centurions 3 – 2 Bombers.
Due to the nature of a low scoring game, there is not much to say. Both teams presented a strong defence which meant that no touchdowns were gained. Centurions’ Paroussis scored a field goal at 26 yards, gaining them the three points needed to secure the win. Now with 100% field goal record, it seems the Centurions are bringing new talents to the game.
The two points Lancaster gained was due to an error made by a Centurions player, which meant that the ball ended up in their own end zone, securing the Bombers a safety and the two points that came with it.
Due to the strong defence presented by the Bombers, the offense team had a hard time making any ground. Marks, 87, was the lead rushers of the day, making eleven yards in ten carries; he was closely followed by Walter, 21, who made ten yards on four carries and gained ten more yards, receiving three catches. Rucinski, 14, was once again leading receiver, catching three passes for 42 yards and also gaining one rushing yard on a carry.
However, the best part of the Centurions' game this week was defence and that is thanks to a lot of strong tackles from players such as Pitt, 25 (who is currently running for YUSU Student Activities), Braid, 56, Ninnes, 33, Yolland-Jones and Beale, 59, all of whom gained four or more tackles. Defence were definitely on form this week - let’s hope they can keep it up for the rest of the season.
Coming from a game that no one thought they could ever win with their heads held high and another win under their belts, I feel that the Centurions deserve a lot more credit than they’ve previously been given. It seems they’ve come from nowhere and have now gained three wins out of the five games they’ve played. It is about time the American Football team were taken seriously on campus. They have done so much this year and deserve all the praise in the world. It seems, for the Centurions, things will keep getting better. It’s about time the American Football team were appreciated for their skill and hard work.
Also a few quick mentions, one to Hank Squiers, 23, who will be leaving the Centurions for a while to get hitched. We wish him all the best. Also a mention to Liu, 77, who will be out of the game for a while as he is running marathons! Good luck to both of you!
