At the University Nationals, which sees 18 universities compete, York’s Dance Squad placed first in Jazz Dance and this is a great achievement for the squad in its first year together.
The Competition Squad, which performs routines of dance, tumbling, stunting and jumps, came second in their event at the University Nationals. This is a huge improvement on their fifth place finish last year, particularly considering the team is only in its third year.
Then at the BCA Midlands Classic, the Competition Squad placed first, as did the Dance Squad in Jazz Dance, securing first place overall and retaining the title won last year.
The Group Stunt came 4th, winning York’s third trophy at the competition and fifth over the two events, club President Steph Northcott told The Yorker.
Of the performances at the events, Hornet’s head coach Erica Gold said, “I am so proud of how well the York Hornets performed. The talent just keeps getting better every year. I think we have proved that the York Hornets are the team to beat.”
“The girls have worked so hard over the last six and a half months, and it definitely showed in their performances! They were all so amazing and truly deserved their first and second place finishes” she added.
Danni Corker, a member of the Competition Squad, revealed “I was amazed at just how well we did with it being the first competition for a lot of the squad. I felt so happy and proud of everyone.”
York Hornets will next be competing on Saturday 14th May (week 3) in Newcastle and this will be their last competition this year.
Unfortunately, they are unable to compete in Roses but the Performance Squad will be performing at the Roses Opening Ceremony (also week 3) and then at Woodstock and Big D towards the end of the term.
