Alcuin 8 - 1 Derwent
Delaney (3), Cormac (2), Hyde, Cox, Cooper
A result which few would have predicted: a virtually full strength Derwent side were annihilated by an in form Alcuin side who saw a 3-0 lead disappear last week. Derwent could not have made a worse start to the match with Alcuin scoring directly from kick off with a mere 15 seconds on the clock.
This set the tone for the match with Alcuin 4-0 up within the first quarter. Alcuin turned the poor playing surface to their advantage and concentrated their attacks down the firmer footing of the flanks. This tactic paid dividends and Alcuin romped to a 6-0 half-time lead. The second half lacked the explosive scoring rate but Alcuin showed similarly complete control, adding two more goals to round off a fine win despite Derwent’s late consolation goal.
Halifax 3 - 2 Langwith
Richards (2)
Langwith showed their fighting spirit and no lack of class to recover from their 7-1 drubbing at the hands of Vanburgh last week and come within moments of recording a credible draw against Halifax. The pitch again was nigh on unplayable but the game went ahead and Halifax looked to attack from the off and bolster their goal difference in what was billed as an easy game.
The reality was a very tightly fought and well contested affair which was eventually decided by a Richards goal described bt eye-witnesses as a “miss-hit”, though he himself is adamant that it was an intentional lob. Regardless the last minute winner secured Halifax a hard-earned victory and keeps any title aspirations they might harbour alive.
Goodricke 4 - 0 Wentworth
Coupland (3), Smith
Whether the change of pitch or the addition of a manager, Wentworth looked a much more organised, coherent unit and the final scoreline did not accurately reflect play. While they did not pose too many attacking threats to an impressive Goodricke defence, Wentworth were not outclassed or outfought. As cohesive as Wentworth were, Goodricke did not click at all, with the majority of attacking passes going astray, but thanks to a Dave Coupland hat-trick the result was rarely in doubt.
James 1 - 0 Vanbrugh
James fought through the mud to record a vital victory against Vanbrugh, who failed to follow up their demolition of Langwith last week with a positive result. As always seems to be the case, the poor playing surface was not conducive to flowing football, but James’ victory keeps them in the hunt for the title this term and Vanbrugh will be hoping to bounce back next week from this disappointing loss.
Sorry but "a virtually full strength Derwent side"?
The college's two best players were unavailable, as was the 1st choice keeper, plus the captain had to come off after 20 minutes. Still played shockingly but to say they were even close to full strength is very harsh!
Alcuin to retain their spring term title.
I've heard rumours that Barnett has lost the dressing room after that defeat. An Anton Murphy driven coup could be the only answer to Derwent's problems.
Jake Delaney = worst player in college football history to score a hat-trick.
Myles Preston, didn't you leave uni last year? Get a life mate.
Sounds like some Derwent lads aren't too happy...
Play a proper sport!! Start by changing that poltically-correct Rugby ball that you play with. Who is Myles Preston?
Who is Myles Preston? Rugby is for untalented louts.
I'm Udy Onwudike's punch bag.
and who are Derwent's two best players?
Greg Gardner and Alex Cooper. End of.
but then you could argue most colleges are missing their best players when two first teamers aren't available. Goodricke can't play O'Shea and Wilson, Alcuin can't play Murrills and Swan, Halifax can't play Brennan and Mckellow. It's Derwent's captain's choice to play Anton rather than Greg or Alex, not that they're 'unavailable'. And every college has to deal with players missing. Get over yourselves Derwent...
No, we were unavailable last weekend. Alex is injured and I was out of York. But then again even if we were available, not playing 'Dreamz' would be madness...
Not all college's first team players are their best players - Alcuin's player of the season in the last two years was Roo Wakeford, and Goodricke's was Owen Grafham. As good as Dom and Tom are, Owen was the heartbeat of that side, and only ever played for the Uni 4ths (dont know why that was the case).
But in Derwent's case, you will surely be hard pressed to find two better players than Greg and Alex. It's always a huge challenge for the other team when either of those two play, and surely gives Derwent a lift. Derwent have got good players allover the pitch anyway, and I'm sure Sunday's result was just a one-off. Having played in the Alcuin team against them last term, in what was a very tough match, I'm sure that they will bounce back. They've got a quality captain as well.
I'm not convinced about this 'Dreamz' character though...
College football is fine, a good laugh, but at the end of the day there are no nets. That says alot.
And Myles Preston may look like a mountain goat.

Having no nets says an awful lot, as does conceding walkovers when there are no referees etc, an all to familiar problem seen in various sports at university level, but that has nothing to do with this article...
I'm pleased to say that no games have been conceded this academic year whatsoever, whether due to lack of players or lack of referees. This is unheard of in the time I've been at University, and long may it continue. I'm also pleased to announce an agreement with the groundsmen has been reached, which allows us to go out and buy nets, safe in the knowledge they can be used and won't meet resistence from the "Health and Safety, you need height training to put those up" brigade. Another win for college sport.
Wow, that Adam Clark guy is amazing. Who is he?
My hero.
Love from Adam Clarking
Vanbrugh have nets x
