A group of York students has won the opportunity to have their very own I-phone application developed after winning The App Challenge final, held at the Ron Cooke Hub on Wednesday, January 18.
YUSU Welfare officer Bob Hughes has warned students to be vigilant after a student loans phishing scam has been revealed.
Her Majesty the Queen will be visiting York on Maundy Thursday, 5th April, as part of the 800th anniversary of York’s Charter for the traditional “Royal Maundy” ceremony.
A flood caused by a heating system “failure” forced the university IT services to shut down many essential systems on Sunday night, causing problems for many students on the eve of their exams and assignment due-dates.
The Party Safe project involved group initiatives by student representatives from York University, York St John’s University, York College and Askham Bryan College. The campaign, which ran from the 3rd to the 7th of December, saw YUSU officers dressed in bright pink t-shirts give out anti drink spikers and bottles of water to people on nights out in York town.

YUSU Welfare Officer, Grace Fletcher-Hall, felt that the week was a success in raising awareness about safety on nights out and had gone down well with students.
She said “I found the vast majority of students I spoke to while going around bars and clubs this week, were very concerned about drink safety and appreciated the efforts made by us and by the bars themselves to keep them safe”
The Yorker asked some students what they thought about the campaign.
One student said “I think it really good, especially the anti drink spiker things. I don’t leave my drinks unattended but it’s good to have them especially as there’s been quite a few spiking recently.”
Another said that he felt it was a good thing to raise awareness about. He said “just something as simple as taking your drink with you and not leaving it on the bar could make the difference between a good night, and a bad one”

Grace Fletcher-Hall said the campaign will be run again in future years and said “We would be happy to hear students' suggestions on how we can do this even more effectively”
