A group of York students has won the opportunity to have their very own I-phone application developed after winning The App Challenge final, held at the Ron Cooke Hub on Wednesday, January 18.
YUSU Welfare officer Bob Hughes has warned students to be vigilant after a student loans phishing scam has been revealed.
Her Majesty the Queen will be visiting York on Maundy Thursday, 5th April, as part of the 800th anniversary of York’s Charter for the traditional “Royal Maundy” ceremony.
A flood caused by a heating system “failure” forced the university IT services to shut down many essential systems on Sunday night, causing problems for many students on the eve of their exams and assignment due-dates.
The students arrived back to find a letter telling them that they're moving out next weekend.
They were told by estates that their rooms need to be refurbished for conferences.
James Chair Chet Khatu will become the first chair to live in another college because of the plans.
He told the Yorker: "There were rumours earlier in the year but it wasn't clear what would happen. We've all come back to an email and a letter under our doors."
The unlucky chair emailed his college to try keep morale high: "So despite only living in James for one term, I'll be Chairing James College from er, Vanbrugh! Which is only a permanently closed off bridge away... right?!"
I'm hoping that college spirit and expectations remain high.
Khatu said that the plans were only finalised late in 2007.
Khatu and the rest of James F block are set to be moved across the lake and housed in the Barbara Scott Court of Vanbrugh College.
D-block residents will then move to F-block while their accommodation is refurbished.
Accommodation Manager Phil Prosser wrote letters to affected students and told them:
It is envisaged that you will not return to your old accommodation in James College.
"As part of the university's ongoing programme of refurbishment of college accommodation it has been agreed that refurbishment of James college blocks D and F will take place over the next two terms.
"With the final completion of the new accommodation for Vanbrugh College there is an opportunity to transfer a block of students from James College."
He warned F-block students that they may finish their first year living as residents of Vanbrugh:"It is envisaged that you will not return to your old accommodation in James College and that the remainder of your stay at the university this year will be in this new accommodation.
"You will, of course, remain a member of James college and still be eligible for the benefits that this brings..."
Both Vanbrugh and Langwith have also been affected by moves to other colleges in the last three years.
Why don't they send D block into Vanbrugh as opposed to moving both F block and D block? It doesn't make any logistical sense...
Because both blocks are due to be refurbished!
Why the feck is Vanbrugh bridge in such a shoddy state for so long anyway? It's pissing me off!
