A group of York students has won the opportunity to have their very own I-phone application developed after winning The App Challenge final, held at the Ron Cooke Hub on Wednesday, January 18.
YUSU Welfare officer Bob Hughes has warned students to be vigilant after a student loans phishing scam has been revealed.
Her Majesty the Queen will be visiting York on Maundy Thursday, 5th April, as part of the 800th anniversary of York’s Charter for the traditional “Royal Maundy” ceremony.
A flood caused by a heating system “failure” forced the university IT services to shut down many essential systems on Sunday night, causing problems for many students on the eve of their exams and assignment due-dates.
With no official notification or warning from their college, students have been left to wonder exactly what the current situation is.
Workmen who have entered the accommodation block in order to look into the apparent problem have acted as their first and only information source.
One worried student told The Yorker: 'It's disgusting that they haven't even told us exactly what's going on. We had to find out from the workmen who suddenly appeared one day.'
Fans have been put in place to ventilate the area and to avoid the potentially serious health problems associated with high concentrations of asbestos fibres in the air. For some however this has proved testing on their health.
A resident in the affected block said: 'I suffer from asthma and have found it very hard to be at home recently. I've had trouble breathing, it's been horrible.'
Goodricke College Chair Joe Clarke has been able to inform The Yorker that, at present, no harmful substances have been discovered and the workmen are merely part of a ‘campus wide, routine check.’
In the face of announcements for further refurbishment in James College many students are once again calling attention to the differences in quality of accommodation at the university.
The investigation regarding the Goodricke problem is ongoing, with many students still being subjected to continued disruption.
Just to point out - the scaffolding up is for roof checks / cleaning of the guttering.. The picture is misleading.
The entire story is misleading, find some real news! As I stated, everywhere has to be checked. It is just a formality to tie in with council regulations. There is no problem!
the story says there are checks going on because the we the residents were told so. The fans have put students out - thats the story, deal with it. And the picture includes scaffolding, there's enough of it up that you can't get the picture without it. Leave them alone, they're still better than vision!
I'm not sure quite what they're checking - we all know that there's asbestos pretty much everywhere in this university...
if there is confusion here it seems to be because Goodricke residents are confused... if a workman was the first person to tell me my college was being checked for asbestos i'd be worried
