A group of York students has won the opportunity to have their very own I-phone application developed after winning The App Challenge final, held at the Ron Cooke Hub on Wednesday, January 18.
YUSU Welfare officer Bob Hughes has warned students to be vigilant after a student loans phishing scam has been revealed.
Her Majesty the Queen will be visiting York on Maundy Thursday, 5th April, as part of the 800th anniversary of York’s Charter for the traditional “Royal Maundy” ceremony.
A flood caused by a heating system “failure” forced the university IT services to shut down many essential systems on Sunday night, causing problems for many students on the eve of their exams and assignment due-dates.
The Second XI had been playing at home, and only discovered the robbery when returning to the changing room after their match had finished.
They had just beaten Sunderland's second team 1-0, and the home team were delighted to have avenged the controversial defeat earlier in the season. When York played Sunderland away last term, the fixture descended into disarray when the referee lost all control of the game.
But the mood took a turn for the worse when they realised that the door guarding their possessions had been left unlocked for over two hours.
Club president Alex Richards said: "It was absolutely gutting to be honest with you, really unfortunate for everybody. It's not what you expect. It completely mars a really good performance and just sort of takes all the attention off it.
"It's just such a shame for the lads, it's the personal expense, but it's also the expense of the losing the feeling of victory after the game as well. It's just really gutting to be honest with you."
The thieves were thorough, taking 5 iPods, 10 phones and 11 wallets in total. The total cost to replace all the items is estimated to be well over £4,000.

"We've got in touch with the university authorities. We're following it up as much as we can. The security services are looking through the CCTV now, hopefully something will come up so we can get the lads' belongings back. We'll just have to keep trying and see what we can do.
"I don't want to point any fingers, but it would surprise me if it was just an opportunist who's come in and just found the doors unlocked. [But] I don't want to get into any of the investigative stuff. I'm just hopeful we can find out who it was, and get everything back.
"You'd think that it would be one of the other teams playing today, seeing as they're there in the changing rooms, but I'd hope that wouldn't be the case. You'd hope that other universities carry themselves the way that we do, in an honest fashion, coming to play their sport and enjoy themselves.
"If that's not the case then that paints a very bad picture of students in general, if there's students going out and doing those things then it's deplorable.
"We had three fantastic wins today. It's just a real shame that they have been tainted with an event like this."
Carl Worrall, who was one of the worst affected, simply described it as "fucking shit".
That is seriously shit.
I'm quite impressed with just how much expensive stuff they had with them...
