The week in pictures: RAG Week
Sunday, 10th February 2008
This week saw the annual RAG Week. The RAG Committee hosted a variety of successful events, beginning with a charity fair, and ending with a near-capacity event in Derwent.

Tuesday night hosted 'Blagathon' a charity auction - where students bought a pineapple for £20, to first class train tickets for £50, a slot at Woodstock for £43 and tickets to the following night's England match for £220. Black cards for Gallery and Toffs were flying for around £100. The total made on the night was in excess of £2,000!

Blagathon saw ex-Derwent Chair Jamie Tyler have his legs waxed for over £100

Thursday night saw 1,800 students hit town on two routes; one to Toff's and one to Gallery. Collectors sold everything from hugs and kisses to glow-sticks and high-five's to raise funds!

Balloons complete with messages were released over Parliament Square to signal the start of the Parade

Pro-Vice Chancellor Barbara Scott named Alcuin best college. Each College represented a different continent, and Alcuin as North America were red, white and blue all over.

Each college, as well as Graduate students and York St. John turned out in full attire.

Derwent, as Antartica, raised eyebrows with the locals!

Halifax were Latin America, James were Australians, Langwith were Pharoah's, York St. John were 'Out of this world', GSA were Space-bound, there were Derwent Penguins, Goodricke Ninja's and Geisha's, European Vanbrugh, U.S.Alcuin's and YUSU were 'Under the Sea.';

RAG Vice-Chair, Mike Williams, was one of a dedicated team who helped count all the money generously given by members of the public; the running total (with 2 colleges left to count) was a whopping £3,102! £600 up on last year!

The week ended with RAG Bash in Derwent, the event all but sold out, ending the week on a high!
RAG Week was a fantastic success - with plenty of money still to count, the total raised is still unknown, but with RAG Parade alone raising over £3000, the grand total is set to be impressive!
RAG collects money for it's five beneficiaries, this year they were GLONA, Macmillian Cancer, Yorkshire Cancer Research, HCPT 58 and St. Leonard's Hospice.
