By appointment HRH: The Royal Gallery

The Gallery
Saturday, 9th February 2008
Prince William paid a flying visit to York student hotspot The Gallery.

The royal heart-throb swooped into the city on Wednesday with a group of 47 army mates on a break from training at a local airbase.

It is understood he has been staying at RAF Linton-on-Ouse, 11 miles outside York, as part of 4-months of flying training.

William is also said to have visited Vodka Revolution on Coney Street and scoffed an £8 curry called the ‘Royal Delight’ in Saffron Desi Indian restaurant on Micklegate.

Restaurant owner Mohammed Nisar told The Telegraph that William and his group turned up at 7:30pm.

Mr. Nisar said: “He ordered a bottle of Strongbow. I then told the kitchen that Prince William was here. The customers were going crazy."

Some cheeky students are already plotting a ‘Prince’s pub crawl’ following the route taken by the group, who reportedly ran up a £1300 bill at the curry house but neglected to leave a tip.

A spokesman for The Gallery told The Yorker: “It was the word on the street that he would be about. I don’t know for certain but I think he would have come straight in.”

“Being part of the largest night club company in the UK he’s been to a few of our places before.”

“He was with a group of friends and he had a great night.”

"We have to respect the privacy of any person who goes into our clubs so we can't comment too much more than that."

Of the plans for a bar crawl ending at The Gallery he added:

“For the Prince to visit any town it’s a huge honour and if it means more students coming to our clubs then that’s great.”
