Later opening hours for York nightclubs

Nightclub
More time to party
Thursday, 21st February 2008
Two popular nightclubs in York, Nexus and Vodka Revolution, have put in a bid to stay open later.

Nexus has submitted an application to the City of York Council requesting that its opening hours be extended from 3.30am to 4.30am.

Plans to increase the floor space for dancing, while not increasing the size of the club, are also in the works.

Vodka Revolution is aiming to get its licensing hours extended, from the current midnight from Mondays to Wednesdays and 2am Thursday to Sunday, to a uniform potential of 3am throughout the week.

Concerns have been raised in the past about the rowdiness which may come about due to longer possible drinking hours. Nexus’ bid to turn the current venue into a super-club was rejected last year, partly on these grounds.

A Second year writing and performance defended the decision and told The Yorker: “If people can drink gradually throughout the night they don’t have to do twelve shots before midnight. It helps prevent binge drinking.”

A second-year PEP Student “If other clubs can stay open later, why shouldn’t Nexus be allowed to?”

Russ Brown, director of McMillan York, which owns Nexus, told The Press that the application for later opening hours came from a desire to “provide our customers with the same benefits experienced in other clubs in the city.”

The final decision regarding both applications will be announced in the coming weeks.

Does Revolution have a dance floor? I suppose it's possible, just whenever I've been in there it's too busy to see it
