A group of York students has won the opportunity to have their very own I-phone application developed after winning The App Challenge final, held at the Ron Cooke Hub on Wednesday, January 18.

York Student Television (YSTV) won two national awards at the National Student Television Association Conference. The first was for Best Live Show, for their 40th birthday and Children in Need broadcast, and the other was for their YSTV Presents show, which showcases local bands. Claire Butler and Alex Hazell, the producers of the show, said: “It was a testament to York that the winning show was a real team effort and everyone worked so well together to produce such a technically advanced and entertaining show.”
The owners of Fibbers are to leave and set up a new, rival live music club, next door at the current Stonebow Snooker Club. The new bar will be known as The Duchess and will open in mid-June.
An accident involving an Ftr bus left a woman injured after the bus collided with a car. Passengers on the bus escaped serious injury, although they were treated for shock. The accident occured near the Victoria Inn Pub on Heslington Road.
DramaSoc continued their winning ways and swept the boards at the NSDF. They were given a special award for Promoting National Student Drama separately from a dedicated department. Their production of Metamorphosis at the festival also won some awards. These were:

A group of York students have teamed up with Exmouth students to create a range of books aimed at younger students.
The Roger Kirk Centre has become an unlikely exam venue after it was realised that building work at the HERC centre could disrupt exams scheduled in Central Hall. Roger Kirk will be closed for the term and Catering Services will set up mobile food outlets, including a Hot Dog stand outside Goodricke and a sandwich bar in Wentworth.

It'll be interesting to see how they spend £1 million, especially given the clubs closed for so long - there must be some major construction going on, maybe a sound-system upgrade/refit too.
In a message I recently got from the manager, they said that there will also be a new DJ starting on April 22nd (tomorrow) - hopefully a change to the tried, tested and now tired playlists of the last 3 years...
They'll also be doing more themed nights on Tuesdays to try and drag the flagging student numbers back up.
