Police sources revealed that a team of officers entered the premises of the popular takeaway just before the Easter holidays, arresting two people.
There is no problem at Efe's. I do my job, I sell pizzas. The immigration police do their job. I can't do anything about individuals.
One was removed from the UK while the other was released, but stripped of his employment rights after a spell in custody.
Despite initially denying the claims, Mr Efe told The Yorker in an interview: "There is no problem at Efe's. I do my job, I sell pizzas. The immigration police do their job. I can't do anything about individuals."
He claimed that the person deported didn't work at Efe's but was a "friend" of a staff member and visited often. He has denied the arrest of the second person, despite confirmation from the police.
The UK Home Office and Borders Agency confirmed the raid, telling The Yorker: "Police conducted an enforced entry into the premises. One worker was removed from the country. The other was released from custody but had their employment rights terminated."
Mr Efe claimed that he does all he can to check the documentation of workers and understands that the police were just doing their job. The Borders Agency confirmed that the raid occurred in February.
Efe's is the most popular takeaway for York students. Mr Efe has developed a cult status on campus for his personal touch with customers. He often gives away free drinks and has told students who have no money that they can pay for their food later.
New university policy recently saw the takeaway banned from delivering on campus, which provoked uproar from students.
A university statement said that any staff delivering on campus would be treated as "trespassing" and removed from the grounds.
I don't know #19. I'll do it myself since they no longer really fit.
Dan... calm down dear, it's just banter.
Personally I like how the owner is referred to as 'Mr Efe' the whole way through, like he doesn't have a first name.
Dan... calm down dear, it's just banter.
That's your response when someone asks you to stop publicly abusing them?
I don't even like Dan that much and it annoys me when you keep trying to bring him up. Its not funny, just stop doing it, like the man asked, and in keeping with the Yorker comments policy. If you need 'celebrity banter' that much, read Heat.
It's hardly publicly abusing him; someone had said that Mitch or Adam Thorn was the most hated man on campus and Mitch suggested, very plausibly, that Dan Taylor was another candidate. Dan's got no more right to complain than Mitch or Adam (neither of whom did) and probably a lot less since he seeks publicity so much more than either of them.
I agree that people should try and keep to the comments policy but there's no need to overreact if anyone fails to do so and the censorship of most of the first comments page seems to have followed from people getting worked up over nothing.

Well said, dear Anon.
I would have thought the tone made it clear that it was a joke, obviously not to everyone. Sorry, Dan. It's so easy to be misunderstood (no, not in a whiny teenage angst way) on the internet.
Mitch and Dan Taylor should have a fight.
The point I am trying to make is that many of you (or the tiny minority that write on The Yorker) frequently accuse me of self-publicity and the like. However you still make comments about me in a completely unwitty fashion, Mitch (thus it is simply not banter) and do all that self-promotion yourself creating a false perspective of my own personality. I will keep myself relatively 'out' of student politics and all I ask is that you do the same.
The article is about someone illegally working at Efe's, and it's got into something about me again, and that was in no way through my own doing. I think people can see that your ridiculously childish posts and attempts at 'banter' are just utter shite frankly.
#26- It's definately an idea.
