A group of York students has won the opportunity to have their very own I-phone application developed after winning The App Challenge final, held at the Ron Cooke Hub on Wednesday, January 18.
YUSU Welfare officer Bob Hughes has warned students to be vigilant after a student loans phishing scam has been revealed.
Her Majesty the Queen will be visiting York on Maundy Thursday, 5th April, as part of the 800th anniversary of York’s Charter for the traditional “Royal Maundy” ceremony.
A flood caused by a heating system “failure” forced the university IT services to shut down many essential systems on Sunday night, causing problems for many students on the eve of their exams and assignment due-dates.
The event, hosted by the Shepherd Group, the Lord Mayor, and the Sheriff of York, honoured volunteering projects run by students.
The Rt Hon Lord Mayor of York Councillor Irene Waudby and Vanbrugh Provost Dr Allen Warren presented awards to five groups.
Waudby said: "This city wouldn't run without volunteers."
Addressing the groups, she added: "I do hope you all carry on volunteering because there's lots of people out there who need help."

Student Development and Charities Officer Joey Ellis said she felt that volunteering was an important part of the student experience: "I think Student Action is a valuable part of YUSU and this ceremony shows how valued the work of volunteers is."
She added: "It's great to see students outside of the bubble that some members of the community think they are in."
Suzie Heap, who was representing the Tea and Coffee Club said: "It was a lovely afternoon. I was really proud to represent all the other volunteers who work every week. It was also nice to hear about the other projects that are run by students in York."

The afternoon preceded tomorrow's Volunteer of the Year awards, which sees York students in competition with each other for the title.
The Community and Volunteering Unit at the university, in partnership with YUSU, supports more than 40 projects on and around campus.
