York journalist at NUS Awards

The Luscious Lucy Taylor

York journalist Lucy Taylor narrowly missed out on being the first to win the new NUS Award for Student Journalist of the Year.

The results were announced at a ceremony in Birmingham last night.

Taylor, who made the shortlist of three students, was the only representative for the University of York in a range of awards that covered Union activities as a whole.

The award for Student Journalist of the Year was won by Matthew Holehouse, who failed to turn up to collect his award. The award for Student Publication of the Year went to Exposé from Exeter.

Prior to the event, Taylor said: "I'm really pleased and surprised to be shortlisted, it's nice to be able to represent York because it's such a good place to be a student journalist, and I've had a lot of opportunities here.

"This has come just as I finished my degree and am getting ready to leave, so it seems like a nice way to end my time here."

During her time at York, Taylor worked on campus paper Vision as Editor and on The Yorker as Videocast Editor. She won Student Reporter of the Year at last year's Guardian Student Media Awards.
