"Thank you to all colleges, the ACS, Door-safe, Businesses within the City, most of Senate and senior University Staff for being such a pleasure to work with. I'm unclear about what procedure is in place to appeal this; however I intend to actively investigate this with the help of other key people. It seems ridiculous that mob rule has prevailed in what is supposed to be an all accommodating democratic system. To those on my committee that have voted me off I'm disgusted.
Not even mentioning the personal impact from this on me, you have brought two charity events, an all college initiative HEADED by James College, the James presence in the RKC, a high profile celebrity visit for freshers and strong relations with key figures between the Uni and City and James College to a halt from my dismissal.
I went beyond the role of looking after our interests in the Uni which can be verified by ANY of the other Chairs, I even fulfilled my election promises (look at previous years), all you had to do was competently fulfil your roles.
To certain members on my JCRC, I held my tongue and tried to be accommodating: you failed to take responsibility and pro-actively engage in your roles, good luck repairing the damage you have just done. To others in James, don't lose faith in our college, we're still one of the best.
I'll continue wrapping up the various projects I have started, I don't see why just because of underhanded stupidity the college can't still benefit from them. See you around!"
Oh dear. James deal another blow to the collegiate system which appears to be crumbling before our very eyes.
JCRCs tearing themselves apart, wasting £2000 on jollies abroad, bar closures...
No wonder so few people compared with previous years are interested in the college system. Talking to graduates it was the life and soul of the uni a decade or so ago. These days nobody has a clue what JCRCs do, college spirit has joined langy bridge, the lake fountain, trevor and JJs in yorkie heaven, and freshers are telling us they're less satisfied than ever with their events.
Time for a rethink on how colleges work? Or perhaps time to take ourselves a little less seriously and STOP NO CONFIDENCING PEOPLE!!
AMEN!
#21 I agree! Being in James myself, it seemed Chet at least made an effort and I knew who he was. I have no idea who else is on the JCR (could well be my own fault) but they seem to be speaking for me without my knowledge. They say ignorance is bliss, but not sure I agree.....
JCRs should be there to make events happen. As far as i'm concerned that's their main function. To maintain college spirit and put on decent events. And maybe even raise some money. Above all, they should help people enjoy themselves!
I personally don't play sport, so i dont have the same sense of belonging that sportspeople do. All i see of colleges is a clique of wannabe union officers squabbling over pathetic political issues. A guy hires a stripper, so f***ing what?! Get real folks, uni's supposed to be about enjoying yourself.
95% of the student population couldn't give a damn about politics. They don't buy the argument that goody bags are sexist, that strippers (WHO GET PAID!!!) are exploited (its the sucker who pays thats losing out) and if a guy wants to sit in a hammock! All we ever hear of JCRCs is politics and personal agendas.
Student politicians seem to enjoy sucking the life out of us. Whether it be through nannying, moralising or taking themselves so seriously they have to vote each other out or stab each other in the back for personal gain. And we all see right through it.
Colleges have a tough task ahead - limited support and limited funding. Ditch the politics. Start talking business.

What would be the point in reinstating Chet when his committee clearly don't want to work with him? Regardless of whether he thinks he has been a good chair or not, and whether the constitution is 'fair' or not, reinstating Chet now would make the situation in James college pretty unworkable.
I'm not saying there aren't lessons to be learnt going forwards, but we can't do it by turning the clock back.
Anyone think reinstating Chet would be pretty undemocratic itself, given that he was ousted almost universally by a vote from members of the JCRC present, as dictated in the constitution?
As a chair it is your duty to not 'hold your tongue' when you see committee members not doing their jobs and act to ensure that things get done competently. Chet should have realised that it was him that was responsible for the JCRC and now that the committee has performed poorly over the year and people are discontent it is him that is paying the price. He ran for a position that demanded leadership skills and even now in his statement shows little sign of any.
the JCRC stated 'proffesional reasons' for why Chet was no confidenced, well this statement would seem to add fuel to the fire. slagging off his JCRC in a 'statement', good stuff Chet...
I think the lessaon we can take from this is that James College JCR is clearly different from all the others on campus. Whether this is to do with the size of the college, lack of 'bonding' facilities or I am afraid to say, its lack of college spirit, I don't know but I think we must be hesitant in applying what happens in other JCR's on campus to James. There seems to be something going on here that has been brewing for a period of time and I'm not entirely sure we know the full story. It seems like a few people and Chet drying their dirty washing in public with little regard for the people the represent (judging by how many people seemed not to know and quoracy being 11-1-1 in voting).
I'm tired of all this now... get over it. Move on... and Chet - why bother trying to get your position back? Stop being stubborn, accept that you have been mutinied and leave it alone. If you do miraculously get reinstated, you will be working with people who don't want you there and I anticipate that would be awkward and uncooperative. Just forget it, at the end of the day it's student politics. I'm not belittling it, but there are things in the world that matter a lot more. You can still put it on your CV and you can still talk about what you perceived to be your achievements, but just take the hint and pipe down.
