It is with regret that James College JCRC must announce that, following a vote of no confidence, Chet Khatu has been removed from his position as Chair of James College.
This action was taken in accordance with Article 7.1b of the James College Constitution and a vote was taken by a quorate JCRC meeting on the 18th of June and passed by 10 votes to 2 with 2 abstinences.
It should be noted that the decision to propose a vote of no confidence was not taken lightly and we, as a JCRC, would like to thank Chet for the work that he has done.
However, the vote reflects a majority feeling within the Committee, motivated by a desire to see the continued smooth running of the JCRC. We would like to reiterate that this decision was taken purely on professional grounds, and should not be viewed as a personal attack in any way towards Chet Khatu.
The JCRC, in liaison with YUSU, have decided that due to the timing of the vote, a by-election for the position of Chair would not be in the best interests of the College at the present time. A by-election could not be organised before the end of summer term. The Executive Committee, including Vice Chairs, Secretary and Treasurer will take over the responsibilities of the Chair until the new JCRC elections, which are due to take place next term.
The Committee will continue its preparations for the upcoming Freshers' Week, and it should be noted that the JCRC will continue to run as normal despite this decision. The email chair@jamescollege.com will as of today automatically forward to the officers adopting the remit of the Chair.
Is it just me being hungry for gossip or is "professional grounds" still incredibly vague? No real reasons appear to have been listed for his departure, was the vote of no confidence accompanied by any reasons for why he should go? Was it even debated before the vote?
Fucking ridiculous. How the hell do 12 people have the right to 'no confidence' the chair voted in by hundreds? JCRC uv made a huge error & have lost the respect of your fellow students. Bring back CHET!
Why? He was useless - he lost us £400 pounds with that ridiculous Valentines cruise, and just sat around on Quad Dash day!
How can the JCRC say this isnt a malicious attack? Read #4. Bringing Chets personal life into this is pathetic. People make mistakes. Chairs have made much bigger losses. Chet was a positive contribution to the college & did more good then he did bad!
Not malicious, true. And it isn't about his personal life - read it properly....
People should stop with all of this 12 people rubbish - it is misrepresenting the facts. The vote was supported by 12 positions, with most of the positions being jobshares with more than one person. So for example Eco was two people, but they were only one of the 12 votes. Same for LGBT. Same for welfare. Same for ents. And so on. It all adds up to a lot more than a small clique of vindictive Chet-haters.
I find it ironic that the red eye in this particular pic makes him look like the devil. Did the JCRC choose it?
lol
its amusing that chet has put more effort into his own reinstatement campaign than he ever did with the college- perhaps more a fan of the limelight eh chetty boy?
