A group of York students has won the opportunity to have their very own I-phone application developed after winning The App Challenge final, held at the Ron Cooke Hub on Wednesday, January 18.

Her Majesty the Queen will be visiting York on Maundy Thursday, 5th April, as part of the 800th anniversary of York’s Charter for the traditional “Royal Maundy” ceremony.
A flood caused by a heating system “failure” forced the university IT services to shut down many essential systems on Sunday night, causing problems for many students on the eve of their exams and assignment due-dates.
At the end of July the university informed Clarke that he had failed to complete the requirements for continuation into the third year of his degree.
Clarke had apparently been struggling with exams and course work. He had been given a report card by his department which needed to be signed at all lectures to ensure attendance.

The now former Goodricke Chair has since revealed that earlier this year he had an illness which coincided with his exams, adding to his academic difficulties.
As with most cases of academic failure, Clarke has had the opportunity to appeal. However, after talking to the student services department, it appears that a positive outcome would be unlikely.
Vice-Chairs Katie Saunders and Becky Turnbull have stepped up to become Co-Chairs of the JCRC. They said the handover has gone well, and that everything for Freshers Week is going as planned.
Speaking to The Yorker, Saunders said: “I think I speak for the entire Goodricke JCRC when I say it’s a huge disappointment that Joe will not be returning to York this year.”
Concerns have been raised about Freshers Week in Goodricke being compromised due to confusions with plans and budgets.
However, Saunders added that despite the situation's bad timing, she still believes Freshers Week will be a success.
Clarke, although disappointed at having to leave the JCRC, indicated that he believed they were still a strong committee. He added that he would miss working with them, and said: “I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone I have been friends with and worked with at York Uni.”
