The University of York has once again proven the high quality of its campus media with various nominations in this year's awards.
The Yorker and Nouse have both been nominated for 'Student Website of the Year', putting them amongst the top five in the country. Nouse has also received a nomination for 'Student Newspaper of the Year' and Muse for 'Student Magazine of the Year'.
Also in the best website category are publications from the University of Oxford, Imperial College London and City University London. The Guardian have said that "the competition is tougher than ever".

The results will be announced on 26th November.
Citing the need for a bigger music venue in York, Tim Hornsby left Fibbers after 16 years to convert the Stonebow Snooker Club into a live music venue. Hornsby, who opened Fibbers in August 1992, has re-launched the Stonebow Snooker Club as The Duchess.
Since opening in July it has provided York with a bigger music venue, with a capacity of over 400. The underground club is situated very close to Fibbers on Stonegate in the city centre.
Famous bands are being drawn to York with the promise of a bigger and better venue for gigs. We Are Scientists performed there over the summer, Paul Harding of Pendulum has done a DJ set and The Futureheads are booked to play in December.
Plans are currently underway to open two rooms and, if the rooms can be soundproofed enough, Hornsby is looking into the possibility of booking two gigs a night.
Following York's new Cycling City status, work on a secure cycle park has been given the go-ahead after more than a decade of waiting.
The park, near Lendal Bridge, will be open daily from 7am to 7pm. As well as providing safe bicycle storage, it will also house a showroom for recycled bicycles, a store for cycling essentials and host bike maintenance classes.
It is hoped this will encourage even more people to cycle to the city centre. Work on the bike park is due to be completed by next April.
Tom Rogers and Ben Rackstraw set off on a two week journey on the 27th May, with the aim of raising £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Care and The Pasque Adult Hospice in Bedfordshire.
The overwhelming support that they have received from family and friends enabled them to raise even more than expected.
Rogers expressed his thanks: “Amazing! We smashed our £2,000 target so thank you for all of your kind donations.”
The pair cycled approximately 670 miles from John O'Groats in Scotland to Land's End in Cornwall.
The extra money enabled them to donate £1,500 to each of the cancer charities.
A new Open Zone has been introduced at the JB Morrell Library where eating, drinking and the use of mobile phones is permitted.
The Open Zone has vending machines and comfortable seating, and can be used for group work and plugging in laptops.
It has been introduced as a response to a Library User Survey conducted in May, which found that the lack of a ‘haven’ within the library was one of the lowest areas of satisfaction.
Other common complaints included opening hours, and not enough printed materials or electronic resources.
An action plan has been devised to address these issues, with £500,000 being invested in printed materials and £115,000 spent on new electronic subscriptions.
The Key Texts system has also been made more flexible. In response to requests for longer opening hours, the library has announced that it is investigating the possibility of 24 hour opening in the long term.
New Fibbers managers John Hulett (General Manager) and Joff Hall (promotions manager) have refurbished the club this summer, at a total cost of around £80,000.
Changes include new furniture, a larger dance floor and upgrades to the sound and lighting systems.
The bar has also been improved; it now sells a wider variety of drinks, including new cocktails named after popular songs, such as Sex on Fire, which is a current Kings of Leon hit.
Bands now benefit from a new dressing room, and the club expects to acquire a later licence for weeknight events from the end of the month.
Fibbers is also now a registered Ticketmaster outlet, which means the club can sell tickets for any event around the world which uses Ticketmaster to sell its tickets.
After a year of preparation in the UK, the charity READ International have distributed 188,000 textbooks to secondary schools across Tanzania, with York students distributing around 13,000 books along with science equipment and chalk.
Schools were chosen according the scarcity of their resources, with the local authorities ensuring READ’s donation would go to where it was most needed.
York students were assigned 20 schools, all of which were successfully visited and equipment distributed to them.
One volunteer said: “Overall the work we did was very successful this year. The York group managed to get to all their schools despite transport issues and the Tanzanian children are so enthusiastic about learning…it made it all worthwhile.”
The children were involved in unpacking the boxes of books and stamping them with both their school stamp and the READ International logo, encouraging a sense of their ownership over the books.
Ahhh it's good to have The Yorker back!
"The Open Zone has vending machines and comfortable seating"
It only appears to be comfortable seating. It's all pretty colours and squishy-looking but the seats are actually quite hard I demand sofas that can swallow a man.
Congratulations to all the awards nominees!
I wouldn't go as far as sofas. Really big beanbags would do the job (I have one and it's <3 )
I see Mitch is back already. Here we go again...
