It is the first time in their 36 year history that Nightline will been open all day, offering all the services that are available on a night.
Two volunteers will be on duty to take calls from 8am to 8pm, whether by phone, email or by dropping into the Nightline flat.
Nightline's public face Aaron Berry told The Yorker: "We hope that by doing this it will allow people to drop in and see what the service can offer as they pass through campus on a daytime, whether it be for a chat and a cup of tea or to talk impartially with the Nightliners on duty."
Nightline hopes that students will take the opportunity to use the service during the day-time hours. All visits will be welcomed, whether for a chat or talk to someone about a problem, to explore the flat or enquire about becoming a volunteer.
YUSU Academic and Welfare Office Charlie Leyland fully supports the venture. Leyland has said: "Nightline have some very exciting ideas in the pipeline which YUSU are very keen to support as much as we can, the 36 hour opening is another example of their strength and commitment."
Opening the flat during the day aims to make the service more accessible to as many students as possible, and provide an additional layer of welfare support available to students at this time.
Leyland added: "Nightline is a huge asset to and for our students and we are very proud of them. The level of professionalism and commitment is staggering and I would highly recommend students taking full advantage of the service."
