College chairs to take part in Survivor-like challenge

Stranded
STRANDED
Friday, 24th October 2008
Past and present chairs are set to participate in ‘Stranded’, a reality TV style event where students decide the fate of the participants.

The ten contestants will be living on a campsite behind Central Hall.

They will be subjected to what one of the event's organisers, Chet Khatu, has called “a variety of nasty, stomach churning challenges”.

York students will be able to vote online or via text message to decide who the victims of the challenges will be.

Former James Chair Chet Khatu and Langwith Chair Zach Pepper are among the organisers of Stranded.

One of the aims of this reality TV event is to raise awareness of student services and to encourage college unity.

Khatu told The Yorker: “Its aim is to promote togetherness on campus between colleges and to show this is a safe place with services that are designed to be there for all students 24/7.”

The event also hopes to raise money for RAG with a ‘Tent Lottery', where viewers pay to guess which participants they think will be "snuggling up at night with each other”. The correct guess will win a prize.

Stranded will be live on YSTV and interviews about the event will feature on URY. The event will run from 12pm Friday 31st to 3pm Sun 2nd

Contestants include:

  • From YUSU: Tom Langrish
  • James: Chet
  • Langwith: Zach Pepper
  • Derwent: Oli Lester
  • Alcuin: Eric O'Connor
  • Halifax: David Sharp
  • Phil Mason

Wentworth GSA and Goodricke contestants have not yet been chosen. Nominations should be posted on the Stranded Events page

Headline should read "Ousted chair's pathetic attempt to return to campus celebrity status" or something similar.

Quite unfair, gentlemen. "I'm a Chair, Get Me Out of Here" was in the making while Chet was still in office.

This should be good fun, the revised updated article should be out asap.

I can't understand why certain people can't snap out of such a cynical mentality - loosen up mate!

Anyway, keep ur eyes peeled yeh its not long now x

How strange, I initially read the article title as "Surviving College chairs to take part in challenge". Huh.

More seriously, how were the non-chair contestants chosen?
