A group of York students has won the opportunity to have their very own I-phone application developed after winning The App Challenge final, held at the Ron Cooke Hub on Wednesday, January 18.
YUSU Welfare officer Bob Hughes has warned students to be vigilant after a student loans phishing scam has been revealed.

A flood caused by a heating system “failure” forced the university IT services to shut down many essential systems on Sunday night, causing problems for many students on the eve of their exams and assignment due-dates.
Prince El Hassan Bin Talal of Jordan gave a public lecture entitled ‘Challenges for reconstruction and peace building in the Middle East’.
An estimated 550 guests turned up - students, faculty and the public were invited to attend. This meant that P/X001 was well past it's capacity of 299.
Vice-Chancellor Brian Cantor said: "I thought it was wonderful to see so many people learning about the problems of the world. It was a great turnout."
A second lecture room was found and linked via audio, to accommodate the extra numbers. Many people had to stand or sit on the stairs.
A third year Computer Science student said: "It was very interesting but it should have been in Central Hall."
Prince Hassan's talk focused on the need for further communication and inter-faith dialogue in the region. Prince Hassan is, among other things, Moderator for the World Conference of Religions for Peace.
Prince Hassan has taken a largely behind the scenes role in the Middle East. He is Co-Chair of the Independent Bureau for Humanitarian Issues and informal adviser to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
This was the inaugural lecture of what will be an annual series on Post-war Reconstruction, hosted by the University’s Post-war Reconstruction and Development Unit.
I was disappointed not to have heard anything from the mighty John Sentamu!
It was a good talk, both the Prince and the archbishop were articulate and amusing. It was a coup for the Uni to get such good speakers in, so kudos to the Post-War Reconstruction Unit and Brian Cantor for that.
It was a complete shambles of organisationt though, even after people had been moved into PT005 there were still people stood by the fire exits and sitting on the stairs. Also even when the room was full beyond capacity noboy thought to, say, close the door to prevent others from coming ij! As the person in the article said - it should have been in Central Hall!
Apparently Central Hall was filled with tables and chairs for medical exams (I've heard but not had confirmed), which is a real shame. I said on the Friday that the facebook group came up that it would be filled far beyond capacity and not only was it slightly silly that they hadn't allowed for more but it was a real shame.
Also... what was going on with the crazy lights?!
But yeah, brilliant talks by both and some very interesting comments made
Also... not sure that it was Cantor who got the speaker, even if he (and the others) claimed credit
Who is Jason Rose?
He is the person who made a comment above yours. I believe he is a student at this university and he gives his full name. Who are you?
I was on the radio link in P/T/005 and I didn't realise I'd heard anything at all by Sentamu! :-( When did he speak?
Before the link was fully set-up. He gave P/T/005 a "shout out", but apparently the link wasn't up.
Indeed, we hadn't finished running the cables when Sentamu was welcoming those outside.
I believe the lecture couldn't be moved (at that point anyway) because all the necessary security searches had been done.
I got a shout out from Sentamu - yay!
I believe the reason they didn't move the talk to Central Hal was because the building hadn't been cleared by security. That's what Cantor said anyway...
Indeed he did. Though that's a lame excuse - had I been carrying a gun it would have been pointless... I mean, nobody checked us and I could have probably hidden a bomb in the lockable computing tower.
Anywho, erm, yeah. What's with the whole anonymous questioning thing? *sighs*
