It is believed that there was a leak in the pipes on Friday. As a result, no flats in Wentworth had water until about 11pm that night.
Some students were still without water on Saturday. One student who was affected, Kanika Sud, told The Yorker: "I was unlucky, my flat's water was turned on only at 10:45 in the morning, the next day. This was after I went to the porters and complained."
Sud added: "The porter was extremely helpful but the entire situation was awful. Not having water for such a long period of time was horrible! 200 flats not having water is a big deal!"
Though students were provided with bottled water, for their other water needs they had to go to Goodricke or James.
Wentworth Provost Carl Thompson defended the handling of the situation. He said: "Whilst the lack of water was both unfortunate and unavoidable the college made sure that information, bottled water, and shower facilities were made available."
Thompson continued: "Thanks to our wonderful students, staff and the work of our Facilities Manager, Wentworth's college spirit prevailed once more."
It really is a slow week then.
A week old story about a broken water pipe is what passes for 'front page' 'news'.
Our boiler broke this morning. Would you like a quote and reference for this story?
My tap drips. For an exclusive, please contact me asap, otherwise I'm taking it to Vision.
Guys, an entire college had no water for a fair few hours. That is news... even if it's news that can't blame someone for the problem
The best part is the assurance that this is actually important news; "not having water is a big deal".
Well yest it is, if you're in Africa. Or if you have to carry it from a muddy well all the way to your village 30km away, as many people do every day.
But I'm afraid that given the circumstances it's really not that big a deal.
We are all sorry you had to go through the ordeal of drinking bottled water but we still think that people complain a bit too much these days.
