A group of York students has won the opportunity to have their very own I-phone application developed after winning The App Challenge final, held at the Ron Cooke Hub on Wednesday, January 18.
YUSU Welfare officer Bob Hughes has warned students to be vigilant after a student loans phishing scam has been revealed.
Her Majesty the Queen will be visiting York on Maundy Thursday, 5th April, as part of the 800th anniversary of York’s Charter for the traditional “Royal Maundy” ceremony.
A flood caused by a heating system “failure” forced the university IT services to shut down many essential systems on Sunday night, causing problems for many students on the eve of their exams and assignment due-dates.
Rankin told The Yorker: "I think this will prove to be another great sporting event screened in Derwent. Last year we had the Champions League final, the Rugby World Cup final and some of the European Championships live and our bar was packed.
"These proved hugely popular, and I'm sure the Six Nations will too."
He added that for the big matches, the bar will be selling four-pint pitchers for £6. This offer will be in place from an hour before kick off until an hour after the final whistle.
Rankin also expressed the opinion that bars and JCRCs should work together more closely. He said: "This is something I was elected to do, and I'm pleased we've been able to bring this together already.
"While we need the university to invest in the bar facilities, JCRCs can make an impact on the success and quality of our bars too."
The Six Nations tournament begins with England vs. Italy on Saturday 7th February at 15:00.
Yeah, I heard Derwent's last Vis-Ent Reps. were literally the best they've ever had before!
And in other news: every other bar in the country with a TV screen will be doing the same.
Am I the only one who just gets more depressed when I see this kind of story counting as news, are we supposed to go and personally thank the VC for being so kind and generous and letting us watch the rugby.
This sort of thing should be normality, not news!
Who was Vis Ents last year?
#2 - surely the point is that it is a positive move to see that the uni is now responding to the competition from the YUSU bad by offering drinks deals and opening the bar at a time when it would not noramlly be open - surely it's good to see them responding to what the students want?
Is it the Uni responding, or Derwent JCRC? I don't see the Uni doing anything, but rather being their usual lazy selves and leaving their customers to try and promote their bars for them...
That may be so - but the uni presumably has to give some kind of permission to have the bar open during the day when it isn't normally?
Seems like a good service and good publicising of it to me. I'll be there on Saturday!
Helping other JCRCs by pulling their posters down??
Shut up bickering you absolute losers. Stop looking for a debate in something there just isn't.
As Tom said, come down if you just want to enjoy a Saturday afternoon watching the Rugby with a pint and some friends.
That really is the long and the short of the story.
I've heard one of Derwent's Vis. Ents isn't even going to be here next year but <3's the JCR to much to leave...but never shows films on a Sunday night. Bombay. Hooray.
