A group of York students has won the opportunity to have their very own I-phone application developed after winning The App Challenge final, held at the Ron Cooke Hub on Wednesday, January 18.
YUSU Welfare officer Bob Hughes has warned students to be vigilant after a student loans phishing scam has been revealed.
Her Majesty the Queen will be visiting York on Maundy Thursday, 5th April, as part of the 800th anniversary of York’s Charter for the traditional “Royal Maundy” ceremony.
A flood caused by a heating system “failure” forced the university IT services to shut down many essential systems on Sunday night, causing problems for many students on the eve of their exams and assignment due-dates.
Ngwena is a third-year Management student from James College and the current Chair of Fusion. He has previously been on the committees for the university rugby team and the York Entrepreneurs.
Ngwena has a vast amount of experience in graphic design, having worked as a graphic designer for both YUSU and Fusion last year.
Bushby is also a third-year Management student, and a member of Alcuin College. He is a member of the Boat Club, and is currently their merchandise rep.
Bushby is also a DJ for The Courtyard, and has previously worked as a DJ for Tru when it was known as Toffs. Before attending York, he studied Business Administration and International Relations at the University of Southern California.
To read more about Tom Langrish, who is also believed to be running for President, click here.
Dan Taylor and Rory Shanks, however, have both informed The Yorker that they will not be running for President.
Taylor, a third year History and Politics student and 'campus celebrity', said: "I honestly never considered running. I have no idea where the rumour came from."
Taylor will instead be joining the army, and is off to Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in September.
Shanks also announced he did not intend to run for President, though could not give further details. It is believed he will run for another position, most likely Student Activities Officer.
Official list is out now, some interesting battles for various positions.
Particularly looking forward to Leyland vs RON, always a dark horse...

Who the chuff is Grant Bradley?
D&S is going to be the most interesting battle I think, with SA and RAG being the closest.
I agree. D&S is still very much open to all of the candidates though I'd suspect Sharp will be the underdog. Langrish is clear favourite for President though.
#25.
I don't know how you come to any of your predictions.
Sharp should be the obvious frontrunner being the only candidate with campus name recognition and potential college support. It depends on whether he can mobilise his troops and what policies he comes out with.
I'd argue Langrish is anything but the favourite... Although a YUSU stalwart he does not have the name recognition, popularity or charisma of Nwenga or the stunt/gimmick that Bushby is planning.
Merely having a YUSU background means nothing when the majority of students don't know who is even involved it.
Saying that, I look forward to seeing all candidates policies and campaigns.
Sharp should be the obvious frontrunner as the president of Halifax in the year that JJ's was closed down? Hmmm...
The other 3 also have name recognition and experience, but I believe only one will have both the policies and the skills to make a good job of the position.
"Sharp should be the obvious frontrunner being the only candidate with campus name recognition and potential college support."
I entirely disagree. Outside Halifax, no one has heard of Dave Sharp in contrast to Ed and Lewis, both of whom have excellent credentials for the job. I think it's going to be a straight race between those two.
"The other 3 also have name recognition and experience, but I believe only one has both the policies and the skills to make a good job of the position."
Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that the candidates' policies have not been announced yet..
#29, they may not have been announced, but the statements on the nomination forms are all in. No doubt that by this stage, many people have been privy to the contents of them, not just the returning officer and his/her assistants, but the many friends, supporters and mentors of candidates consulted in nomination process and in the preparation of campaign materials for Tuesday.
Only our campaigners, Chris and I know our policies... I'd assumed similarly that other candidates were in the same situation.
Ed can claim lots of Ents credentials such as stuff in the Courtyard. Lewis can claim various YUSU/NUS things that aren't as in-your-face but also Battle of the Bands etc. George can claim being ISA Welfare and various other things. David Sharp can claim being Halifax President.
For Democracy and Services, however, which is the best? Being able to run events may be services, knowing the constitution well may be democracy. Sharp could mobilise Halifax, potentially, but he was seen by the campus media to fail to get them active or voting so I suspect that the media will treat him harshly on the democracy front.
All 4 are big names in different circles and all 4 are completely different candidates. It'll be an open-ended and tough battle for all of them. The policies themselves could well be key for once!
George. I changed the tense to what I meant to say in #27.
#32, I see what you mean - fair enough
#31 is surely an example of campaigning (which cannot start until Tuesday), even if it is negative rather than positive campaigning.
How is it? I said they're all going to be similarly popular and that's about it!
Can anonymous people please stop telling me that I'm campaigning for people when I'm not?
stop posting.
Would somebody please explain what I can or cannot post about candidates? As far as I am aware we live in country of free speech yet I do not want to get the candidates that I want to support into trouble.
RE: 37
I think after tomorrow you can say whatever you like, best just to wait until then...
GOOD LUCK TO OLIVER LESTER!!
