Viking Kath withdraws her candidacy for YUSU Sport

YUSU Elections 2009 02
Sunday, 8th March 2009
In a press release today Katherine Mildon, also known as Viking Kath, announced her withdrawal from the YUSU elections for York Sport President and NUS delegate.

Mildon, a post-graduate funded research student at York explained that after talks with her supervisors it became clear that running in the elections "was not compatible with my work commitments".

She added: "This exit was not planned prior to nomination, but has come about this week after discussions with my supervisors."

Mildon will be keeping an adapted version of her website running "in order to increase awareness of the issues which my supporters and I think are important".

Mildon was running against four other candidates for York Sport but has made it clear that she will not be actively supporting any of her fellow running mates.

In an earlier interview with The Yorker Mildon said she was running "to help people enjoy their time at university through taking part in sport. I'm passionate about improving inclusion as well as achievement, which I think can be quite a rare combination of qualities for a York Sport President. I feel I have the maturity and experience to really make a difference."

The remaining four candidates for York Sport are Gemma Johnson, Michael Leahy, Emily Scott and Michael Sneddon.
