I mentor some students with dyslexia, which is very rewarding. Being a maths PhD student, I'm a seminar leader and a marking assistant as well. I support students as much as possible, including helping individuals and providing additional feedback wherever I can.
I am the President of Dancesport and have completely reformed the society over the last two years. I have played a large part in running the team and coordinated 'York Come Dancing' with YUSU and RAG.
I have a passion for helping students whether it be socially or academically. I believe that making the university experience easier for those with disabilities is something that can be achieved by listening and taking action. I understand difficulties faced by students with unseen disabilities and am keen to learn about problems faced by people with other disabilities.
I would like to create an online forum and community support network where students can discuss problems and not feel isolated. This would be open to all students who would be welcome to ask questions if they have concerns. As well as online community support, I would be available for students to approach with any questions or issues. I intend to listen to students and campaign for the things they want.
I plan to create short online courses for staff and students to learn about disability issues that students face. The current courses offered by the university are excellent, but they tend to be long and places are very limited. Allowing students and staff to take these courses in their own time and making them interesting, by including activities and videos, more people will be able to learn about these problems.
