Match arranged in memory of Charles de Ladoucette

Charles de Ladoucette
Saturday, 16th May 2009
The James College rugby team will take on the College Barbarians tomorrow in a match organised in memory of Charles de Ladoucette, the James student who passed away during the Easter holidays.

Alex Muntus, of the James College team, told The Yorker: "Charles was extremely passionate and committed about his rugby. He was always without fail at training even in the thick of winter under several inches of snow, certainly not what he's not used to in Toulouse!

"He had played very little rugby before coming to York and quickly established himself as one of the most popular players both on the pitch and on socials. He improved immensely during his time and I don’t think he ever realised how good a player he could have become - a very talented athlete!"

Muntus added: "Charles was a very charming, funny and just downright pleasant guy to be with. No-one ever had a bad word to say about him because quite simply there was nothing to dislike about him. He was a genuinely lovely person!"

Another member of the James team, Raphael Gindre, said: "I met Charles two years ago at one of the James College rugby training [sessions]. Since then, Charles became one of my closest friends. He was an incredible guy on and off the pitch, a true gentleman who loved his rugby. He will be truly missed."

The game will take place on 22 acres at 10:30am tomorrow. Any money raised will be donated to the charity Pour un Sourire d'Enfant, which Charles worked for during his time in Cambodia.
