Charles, a second-year James student, tragically died over the Easter holidays. In memory of him, a remembrance service and reception will be held in Heslington Church.
In a group statement, Charles’ housemates said: “The death of Charles is a huge loss to both those that knew him and the university as a whole. We are glad to offer this opportunity to everyone to pay their respects and celebrate his life in the company of friends.”
The service, which will be fairly informal, is intended to bring together those who knew Charles to share their memories with each other. Those who wish to do so will be given the opportunity to give a reading or tell a story about him.
There will also be an opportunity at the end of the service for attendees to make a donation to Pour un Sourire d'Enfant, a charity that Charles was involved with. At a rugby match held earlier in the term for Charles, in which the James college team beat a college Barbarians side 13-7, a total of £168.61 was raised for the charity.
