Police appeal over Claudia relationships

Claudia Lawrence Poster
Saturday, 6th June 2009
Detective Superintendent Ray Galloway, who is leading the Claudia Lawrence investigation, has made a fresh appeal urging any men who had a relationship with the missing Goodricke chef to come forward.

Galloway said he "would particularly like to appeal to people who were either involved in a relationship, friendship, acquaintance with Claudia that was being conducted discreetly, or anybody who knew of a friend, neighbour, or colleague who was involved in such a relationship."

He promised that any information he received would be handled discreetly and confidentially, and added that some men have already come forward voluntarily.

Though Det Supt Galloway ruled out any links between Claudia and escort or dating injuries, North Yorkshire Police believe the 35-year-old kept some relationships secret from her family and friends.

Claudia's father, Peter Lawrence, has expressed doubt over these claims, saying: "We really wonder whether, certainly recently, she had time to form any relationships, other than those about which we know. She saw her best friend, Suzy, and myself very regularly and she worked in quite a strenuous job. We wonder about it."

An appeal on the BBC's Crimewatch programme, which aired on Tuesday, generated more than 60 calls.

Claudia Lawrence has been missing for over 11 weeks; she was last seen on Wednesday 18th March 18. Police are treating the case as a suspected murder.

Anyone who has information to help the inquiry is urged to phone North Yorkshire Police on 0845 60 60 247 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
