Blunkett has been invited to speak by the University of York Labour Club, and after delivering his talk will be taking questions.
His talk at York was originally scheduled to take place in week 4; however it had to be rescheduled after Blunkett had to pull out at the last minute to attend a vote in the House of Commons.
Labour Club Chair Jonathon Carr said: "As former Home Secretary David Blunkett is a figurehead among politicans leading the way in reforms; this will be a unique oppurtunity for students at York to hear from a distinguished politician and one of the most famous parliamentary figures of the last ten years."
Blunkett has had an extensive career as a Labour MP, first being appointed Education Secretary after Labour's victory in 1997. After their second victory in 2001, Blunkett was then promoted to Home Secretary, a position he kept until he was forced to resign in 2004. Blunkett then made a brief return to the cabinet in 2005 as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, before resigning for a second time later that year.
The talk is being held this Thursday 18th June at 7pm in P/L/002.
Come along everyone - it will be awesome!

I think it's actually worked out quite well that Mr Blunkett was unable to attend a few weks ago given what has happened in the past few weeks. Hopefully, all the questions won't be purely about the expenses row and the BNP being elected to the European Parliament though, as, whilst they are both VERY important issues yes, there are a lot of other issues are are still pertinent, such as Gordon Brown's electoral reform proposals, the (ever-lasting!) tuition fees debate, etc. Not to mention how to restore confidence in the party given what has got on recently.
