Vanbrugh RAG held a cake sale and raised £96.84 by selling cakes, including rocky road, cupcakes, rice krispie cakes and mini cookies, baked by RAG representatives Erin Cork and Kate Elliot.
Vanbrugh students also contributed cakes, namely Lydia Poon, Alex Pollard, Alice Hagan, Robyn Taylor, Nicola Charlton, Katie Brown and Beth Greenwood.
A prize for best contribution was awarded to Alex Pollard and Alice Hagan for their duck-shaped cakes, seeing them take away two recipe books, courtesy of El Piano, and a Betty’s ‘Yorkshire Tea’ set.
Kate Elliot told The Yorker: “the day was very successful because we were catering for the hungry, mid-revision students who were passing by or for those who saw the event on Facebook.”
“The support for Vanbrugh RAG this year has been better than we could have hoped for. The success of our cake sale just goes to show this!” Elliot added.
“We now have raised £1,014 for Vanbrugh RAG since Christmas and will be very busy to raise even more!”
Societies have also played their part in raising money for RAG. The University of York Aerobics society grapevined their way around campus using only aerobics moves, kitted out in 80s style neon shorts and leg warmers, and collected donations along the way.
Three hour-long aerobics classes were also held throughout the day, with entry at only 50p, which will go to RAG charities.
Paula Richardson, secretary of the society, led the group around campus and conducted the classes. She told The Yorker: “the classes were just the right size, with around 15 people coming to each, so we were able to really make an impression on campus!”
“We thought it would be something different that no one has ever done before, something new.”
The society raised £428.30 in just over five and a half hours. Richardson said: “The classes, together with the outfits and music, were a great way to grab people's attention and raise money.”
“We thoroughly enjoyed the day, it was definitely worth the aching legs, and we're absolutely thrilled with how much we managed to raise for RAG,” she added.
“We can't wait for next year and we're already planning more things we can do in the future.”
