A group of York students has won the opportunity to have their very own I-phone application developed after winning The App Challenge final, held at the Ron Cooke Hub on Wednesday, January 18.

Over the last few weeks, The Guardian has been contacting writers and publications to inform them that they have been nominated, but the full shortlist was not made public until Monday.
Nouse has been shortlisted for Website of the Year, an award they were runner up for last year. They have been shortlisted alongside Pulp Magazine (Manchester Metropolitan University), X-Media (University of Exeter), The Linc (University of Lincoln) and Live! (Imperial College London).
Vision has been shortlisted in the Newspaper of the Year category, giving them a chance to win the award for the fifth time in eight years. Vision will be up against four previous winners of the award: Leeds Student, Cardiff’s Gair Rhydd, Felix from Imperial College London and Forge Press of the University of Sheffield, which won in the year 2000 as the Sheffield Steel Press.
In the individual writer categories, Nouse and Vision have been shortlisted alongside each other for one of the awards. Vision Co-editor Jim Norton is up against Nouse writer John Halstead for Sports Writer of the Year. The award for Reporter of the Year sees two Vision writers, Tom McDermott and Co-editor Martin Williams, left in the shortlist of five.
Elsewhere, Nouse saw three more of their writers shortlisted – Muse Editor Liam O’Brien has been nominated for Diversity Writer of the Year, Features Editor Holly Thomas has been shortlisted for Features Writer of the Year and former Comment Editor Jenny O’Mahony is in with a chance of winning Columnist of the Year.
The Yorker was not shortlisted for any awards this year, however its co-founder Daniel Ashby is in the running for Broadcast Journalist of the Year. Ashby, who recently graduated from Cardiff Journalism School and is now working for Sky in London, is up against broadcasters from the University of Gloucestershire, Goldsmiths, the University of Leeds and Nottingham Trent University.
