"Trusdays": a preview

Tru
Tuesday, 13th October 2009
Tonight sees the return of "YUSU BandWagon" – Tru's exclusive University of York session, affectionately nicknamed "Trusday" by some students. Siobhan McCluskey takes a look at what the nightclub have planned for this term.

This term, Tru will be providing themed nights on a weekly basis and three different music rooms. Room 1 features chart, pop, party and student anthems with DJ Martyn Hand, Room 2 will be rocking with indie and alternative from DJ Andy Martini and Room 3 brings you R&B with DJ Scott Atkinson.

There are also plenty of new drinks offers for students, improving on the deals the club offered last year. Bottles of VK Apple, VK Orange, Stella Artois and Becks are all £1.50, as are single shots of Archers, Bacardi, Malibu and Vodka with a mixer.

Themes for the next ten weeks are as follows...

Tuesday 13th October will be the Opening Party, getting you in the groove for the start of the academic year. Tuesday 20th October will feature a Foam Party for those who want to get wet and wild. On 27th October, Tru will once again be involved in the Viking Raid, with the following week taking students down memory lane through a Skool Disco on 3rd November.

Find your hidden talent or laugh at your lack thereof at Karaoke Chaos on 10th November, and on the 17th it's time to engage in some friendly competition with the University College Challenge. There's more to come with Dance Idol on 24th November, and a UV Glow Stick Party for those of you who like to stand out without wearing your dancing shoes on 1st December.

Heading towards Christmas, bring your best combat gear to the Action Man and GI Jane Army Fancy Dress on 8th December, and finally, kick off the holiday season with the final event of the term: the Christmas Party on 15th December. For more details about what's ahead, check out the Facebook group, “YUSU BandWagon @ Tru”.

Tru and Gallery are also offering the York Student Discount Card, providing deals in York at top restaurants and bars. A total of 4,000 have been made available, and will be on sale at the Freshers Fair this Saturday.

The benefits include £3 entry all night Sunday to Thursday and £3 off entry all night Friday and Saturday at Tru Nightclub and Gallery, 15% off food and drink in The Slug and Lettuce, 10% off all fares with Streamline Taxis, 20% off any full-priced order at Subway (not available on Friday and Saturdays, not to be used in conjunction with any other offer), a free soft drink with your meal when you spend over £5.80 at Nando’s, 10% discount off your total bill at Caesars at Silvanos, and drinks offers at the Nag’s Head on Micklegate. More details about this card can be found here.

With all of this and more, you should find plenty to do this term, and maybe even have time to go to some lectures along the way.

Surely there has to be a disclaimer at the top saying that this is a promotional article (/blatent advertisement) and those interested in real journalism should look elsewhere (because this is marketing BS).

Agreed. What about Ziggys? Or Gallery? Do they get a plug too?

@#2 Yes, hopefully! I have been in touch with both Ziggy's (or is it The Hub now?) and The Gallery regarding similar articles for their student nights. If I hear back from them, I will absolutely run a feature previewing their student nights.

@#1 Apologies, I put this article in the wrong section - it was intended to be a news feature, not a news story, which is why it is less neutral than many of the articles in our news section. I will correct this error immediately.

If either of you have anything you feel deserves "plugging" or reporting on, you are always welcome to send me an email at news@theyorker.co.uk. Or if emails aren't your thing, you can call me on 07810604341.
