A group of York students has won the opportunity to have their very own I-phone application developed after winning The App Challenge final, held at the Ron Cooke Hub on Wednesday, January 18.
YUSU Welfare officer Bob Hughes has warned students to be vigilant after a student loans phishing scam has been revealed.
Her Majesty the Queen will be visiting York on Maundy Thursday, 5th April, as part of the 800th anniversary of York’s Charter for the traditional “Royal Maundy” ceremony.
A flood caused by a heating system “failure” forced the university IT services to shut down many essential systems on Sunday night, causing problems for many students on the eve of their exams and assignment due-dates.
Director Liz Smith told The Yorker: "We are excited about using Facebook as students have told us that this is how they prefer to get information and find out what's going on. We hope this will be an effective new way of promoting our services and telling you what you need to know, so we need as many people as possible to sign up."
The page went live on Tuesday afternoon and notes have already been published to provide students with a general introduction to the service and the upcoming Graduate Recruitment and Science and Technology Fairs, taking place on 27th October and 3rd November respectively.
There is also information on the page about the upgrading of the Interactive Careers Service software to a new system, and tips for successful job hunting.
A third-year Environmental Economics and Management student who has used the page said: "I really like it - I'm always on Facebook anyway so it makes it easier for me. Although it does gives me an excuse to go on Facebook, which probably isn't a good thing!"
